About Me

Hi there.

Thank you for coming to visit my site!
I really appreciate it.

If you don't know me, I'm a native Upstate New Yorker who landed in Cincinnati twenty-five years ago. I'm a creative director, designer (and wannabe Bette Midler) who has had a generous career primarily in higher education design, branding and marketing. When I started in college as an art major, my first job was working in the marketing department of the deaf institute linked to my college. I fell in love with a non-profit setting and didn't look back.

I am currently a freelance designer where I offer communication planning, art direction, design and content services. Prior to this I was at Xavier University, a Jesuit college in Ohio. I was there for 20 years and had the opportunity and privilege to start up its first-ever marketing office. Through a lot of time, and some great colleagues, I was able to help build its brand from a small, local college into that of a nationally recognized one. But, it's not just colleges I enjoy working with, I get excited to apply that passion towards any brand, or design, that needs a friend or loved one to help it be the best it can be.

I've had a lot of experience doing strategic planning, managing, art directing, working with editors and electronic-friendly folks, but mostly, doing. Doing design. One of my favorite aspects of design is still working with type--where great design began. Where the arc of a letter cut into wood block was all you had with which to be creative. I took my logo inspiration from there...wood and letters. It seems like the trusty tree has always been a designer’s right hand, whether it's wood block type to tell the story, paper on which to print or a simple pencil illustration on a napkin. Cheers to the greatness of the small sapling!

I hope your day is good and remember to keep a pencil around. You never know what can happen!

Kathy
